  • Because I only have ten minutes

For some reason having very little yet set amount of time allows me to blog just a little bit easier. This will be short, but at least it's an update.

My semester in LA is finished, and I've moved in with my brother and sister in-law. I already have a job (which is why I only have ten minutes), as an editor at a company in Venice. I got the job through an alum of LAFSC by showing her this video. Getting a job that quickly based off one video made me feel pretty good about my editing ability. I've only been there one day, but they seem to like me already. Right now it's just freelance work, but so long as I get more work after this first job, you'll hear more about the company.

I would love to show you the final production my team came up with (which I edited) from school, but because of copyright issues with our music library licensing, I'm not allowed to post it online. Sorry.

In case anyone was wondering, I am still engaged to my beautiful fiancee Jamie, she's finishing up her finals week tomorrow, she still has a blog, and I love her more than ever.

    Time's up!

  • Well, that was fun.

I've finished my second video for my Motion Picture Production class, which means that all I have to do for class now is show up and give my input. The videos were on a four week rotation, and I got in the first group. So that means I have no more homework. Anyway, the result is at the bottom of the page, everyone else says it's a great video. I even got a high grade than my last video. But I still know I could've done so much better in so many ways on it, but as Jamie has pointed out to me, I just have really high standards for my own videos.

As promised, I have some picture for you. No, I never went out to fun places to take pictures, but I did get pictures of my school and the view from our 16th floor.

First of all, here is our extensive DVD library that I have access to with no limits, return date, or late fees. It's pretty sweet.

The is our edit lab. There are 7 edit bays that are all pretty sweet. I like them a lot. Since I'm done with my Motion Picture Production class, I'm going to go through a Final Cut Pro book and become Apple Final Cut Pro certified.

Click the picture to make it bigger. It's a great view.

Ah yes, who could forget the Hollywood sign.

That's about it folks. Here's the second video, let me know what you think.

  • When in Los Angeles...

I have become notorious for getting comfortably routine, not allowing myself to experience great opportunity all around me. It's been five weeks in Los Angeles, and the most exciting thing I've done so far was going on a tour of the Kodak theater (where the Oscar's are going to be held this Sunday). And even then, it was a group activity that was required. There are so many great things to go see and do in this town and I haven't even tried to do one of them. I mean, I haven't even gone an taken a picture of myself with the Hollywood sign; that's pretty much the thing to do in Hollywood. Come on Jake.

Maybe it's because I visited my brother two years ago and he took me a bunch of places, but I love taking pictures of things, and when my computer crashed a few months after that trip, I lost all the pictures I took in LA. So I owe it to myself and to you to get out and take some decent pictures of my fun experiences. Unfortunately, that wont happen this weekend, because I'm filming my second, and final, film for my motion picture production class. I would have posted a link to the video here sooner, but I couldn't find a good excuse to write about anything worthy of another post. Either way, here's the video. And if you'd rater watch it in HD resolution, click on the link and then at the bottom right corner of the video click the link that says "Watch in HD". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaTZLCLcZg0

That's about it for now folks. My next post will likely contain my second short film, and will hopefully be leaps and bounds better quality than this one.
